Zamfara State Govt Vows to Raze Communities Shielding Bandits

Zamfara State Government Cracks Down on Bandit-Harboring Communities.

The Zamfara State Government has issued a stern warning to communities shielding bandits, threatening demolition if they continue to provide refuge. This ultimatum was delivered by Deputy Governor Malam Mani Mummuni during his visit to Tsafe Emirate to condole with the community over the tragic loss of nine Community Protection Guards (CPG) members, who fell victim to a bandit ambush along the Tsafe-Funtua road.

Mummuni specifically called out the Maikwanugga community for allegedly providing shelter and sustenance to the bandits. He emphasized that the village’s proximity to the main road, barely half a kilometer away, made their complicity all the more egregious. The bandits had reportedly spent the night in the village before launching the deadly attack on CPG operatives tasked with protecting travelers.

 Government’s Stance

The government has made it clear that it will not tolerate betrayal or hindrance of its efforts to curb insecurity. Mummuni stressed that communities must cooperate with security agencies to ensure the safety of innocent lives and properties.

Previous Measures

This warning comes on the heels of previous measures taken by the state government to combat banditry. Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has vowed to demolish houses harboring bandit informants or weapons suppliers.

 Community Complicity

Mummuni’s accusation against Maikwanugga community highlights the challenges faced by security agencies. The proximity of the village to the main road and its alleged provision of shelter and foodstuffs to bandits underscore the need for community cooperation.

 Government’s Resolve

The government’s stance sends a strong message: complicity with bandits will no longer be tolerated. Mummuni emphasized that the state will not hesitate to take drastic measures against communities undermining its efforts to curb insecurity.

Security Measures

To combat banditry, the Zamfara State Government has:

1. Established Community Protection Guards (CPG) to protect travelers and communities.
2. Conducted operations to flush out bandits from hideouts.
3. Imposed curfews and restrictions on movement in affected areas.
4. Offered incentives for information leading to the capture of bandits.

Call to Action

The government urges citizens to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies. By working together, Zamfara State can overcome the scourge of banditry and ensure peace and stability.

The Zamfara State Government’s tough stance aims to dismantle the support network that has enabled bandits to wreak havoc in the region. By holding communities accountable, the government seeks to prevent future attacks and protect its citizens.

Nigerian Army Confirms Emergence of New Terrorist Group "Lukarawas" in Northwest

Nigerian Army Battles New Terror Group, Lukarawas, in Northwest.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the emergence of a new terrorist group, Lukarawas, in the northwest region of the country. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, announced this during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, November 8.

According to Buba, Lukarawas originated from the Republic of Niger following the coup that disrupted military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger. The group exploited the cooperation gaps and difficult terrain to infiltrate remote areas in northwest states, spreading their ideology.

Initially, locals accepted the group, believing they meant well. However, they failed to report the group’s movements to military and security agencies. Troops are currently working to locate and eliminate the threat.

This development highlights concerns about rising insecurity in northwest Nigeria, where terrorist groups like Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) and Jama’at Nusrat al Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) are already active.
