Nigeria Police Force Clarifies Falomo Barracks Reconstruction, Dispels Misinformation.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has addressed recent misinformation surrounding the reconstruction of Falomo Police Barracks in Lagos State. The project, initiated under former Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba Alkali, aims to provide modern accommodations for officers, aligning with international best practices for safety and well-being.

Reconstruction Objectives:

  • Improved Living Conditions: Offer dignified housing for officers, enhancing their quality of life and service delivery.
  • Safety: Address the 90% of existing barracks in severe disrepair, posing risks to occupants.
  • Sustainability: Leverage Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for affordable housing, successfully adopted in Nigerian sectors like rail projects and university hostels.

 Addressing Misinformation:

Contrary to reports, no officers were forcefully evicted from Falomo Barracks. Occupants received adequate notice, relocation assistance, and N2,000,000 compensation for alternative accommodation. They will also receive monthly rent allowances and be allotted housing units upon completion.

 NPF Commitment:

The current Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to improving officers’ housing through the first Nigeria Police Force Housing Summit. The NPF urges the public to dismiss false narratives and support reforms enhancing police welfare and public service.

Current Status of the Reconstruction

The reconstruction project is currently underway, with the NPF working closely with the Lagos State Government and private sector partners to ensure its timely completion.

Benefits of the Reconstruction

The rebuilt Falomo Barracks will provide:

  • Modern, habitable accommodations for officers
  • Improved living conditions, enhancing their quality of life and service delivery
  • Increased safety, addressing the risks posed by existing structures
  •  A model for future police housing initiatives across Nigeria
