Customs Seizes 16,300 Liters of Smuggled Petrol in Kebbi, 5 Arrested

Nigerian Customs Seizes 16,300 Liters of Smuggled Petrol, Arrests Five Suspects.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi State Command, has intercepted 16,300 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other contraband worth over N300 million. The seized items include:

  • 180 pieces of donkey skins
  • Used clothes
  • 74 cartons of various medicaments

Comptroller Iheanacho Ojike attributed the success to coordinated efforts between outfield officers and the Command’s intelligence unit. Despite fuel scarcity challenges, certain individuals exploited the situation by smuggling petroleum products out of the country.

 Five Suspects Apprehended

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures. Ojike warned smugglers and their syndicates that Customs officers are well-prepared and equipped to combat illegal activities.

Seized Items to be Handed Over

The confiscated items will be handed over to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). This development highlights the NCS’s commitment to combating smuggling and protecting Nigeria’s economy.

Similar operations have been conducted in other parts of the country, including Lagos State, where Operation Whirlwind seized 21,810 liters of PMS and arrested bunkerers.
