Ogun Police Crack Down on Motorcycle Snatchers: Three Arrested.
A notorious motorcycle-snatching syndicate terrorizing Owode-Egba, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, has been busted by the Ogun State Police Command. Three suspects – Adegboyega Sarafa, 42; Soliu Bankole, 38; and Sogo Idris, alias Agbara, 46 – were apprehended on October 14, 2024.
The Incident
On October 11, 2024, Rotimi Bajela, 60, was ambushed by the trio while riding his Boxer Bajaj motorcycle along the Ajura/Olojo/Shiun road. The attackers shot at him, but when the bullet didn’t harm him, they resorted to using a machete, stealing his motorcycle, money, and phone.
The Arrest
Thanks to a tip from a concerned resident, police tracked and arrested the suspects, recovering a locally made gun and machete used in the attack. Bajela identified the attackers during a hospital visit by police, confirming their identities.
Investigation Ongoing
The police have commenced further investigations into the matter, according to spokesperson Omolola Odutola.
This breakthrough is a significant win in the fight against motorcycle snatching in Ogun State.

A suspected motorcycle thief met a grisly end yesterday while attempting to flee from an angry mob in Gawu, Abaji Area Council.
Eyewitness Account
Danlami Ibrahim, a witness, recounted the events leading to the tragic incident. “Around 4:12 pm on Wednesday, the suspect stole a motorcycle from a farm in Mawogi village. The owner raised an alarm, prompting youths to chase him.”
Fatal Accident
As the suspect approached Gawu village, he recklessly crossed the expressway and was struck by a vehicle. Despite being apprehended alive by the mob, vigilantes intervened, taking him to Gawu Babangida Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Police Confirmation
A Gawu division police officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident. “The deceased’s relatives collected his body. We recovered the stolen motorcycle, which was damaged, and impounded the vehicle involved.”
