Ntui's Ambition Gathers Momentum: Diverse Groups Endorse Expression of Interest [Photos]

Dr. VALENTINE NTUI picks Expression of Interest form, Garnering Overwhelming Support from Diverse Groups, Including the Association of Persons with Disabilities.

As the countdown to the November 2, 2024, Cross River State Local Government elections intensifies, Dr. Valentine Ntui, a prominent APC aspirant for the Akamkpa Chairmanship, officially purchased and collected his Expression of Interest form. He was accompanied by a large and enthusiastic crowd of supporters, including delegates from the Association of Persons with Disabilities in the State. The event quickly created a wave of excitement, overwhelming the APC Secretariat in Cross River State, and causing a surge in traffic congestion, a testament to the massive support he enjoys across the region.

In his address to the cheering crowd, Dr. Ntui expressed profound gratitude to his supporters, who traveled from the 10 Council Wards of Akamkpa—Awi, Ojuk North, Oban, Eku, Iko, Mbarakom, Uyanga, Akamkpa Urban, Ojuk South, and Ikpi. He specifically acknowledged the presence of various women’s groups and members of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in the journey for change.

Dr. Ntui spoke passionately about the long-standing struggles of the people of Akamkpa, particularly the residents of Awi Ward, who have faced decades of systemic neglect. For over 50 years, Awi Ward has endured marginalization, limiting access to vital resources and opportunities for its people. However, Dr. Ntui noted that despite these challenges, the residents of Awi Ward have remained resilient and steadfast in their belief that these historical injustices can be corrected. There is now a collective hope that the time for change has arrived, and the community is united in their resolve to address the disparities that have long held them back.

“The people of Awi Ward are not just hopeful—they are determined. They stand at a critical juncture, ready to take charge of their own destiny,” Dr. Ntui said. He pointed out that this moment represents a turning point, where Akamkpa’s future will be shaped by principles of justice, equity, and inclusivity. The overwhelming support for his candidacy is a reflection of the people’s desire for a more equitable future, where the needs of every community, especially marginalized ones, are given priority.

Dr. Ntui took the opportunity to make a heartfelt appeal to the state leadership of the APC, including His Excellency, Governor Ntufam Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and his esteemed wife, Her Excellency Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, to make history by supporting Awi Ward and endorsing him as the APC candidate for the chairmanship of Akamkpa. He called on the state leadership to consider the struggles and aspirations of Awi Ward and Akamkpa as a whole when making their decision, emphasizing that this was not just a personal campaign but a collective pursuit of justice for the people of the region.

Dr. Ntui also reassured his supporters that, if elected, he would prioritize inclusivity, particularly advocating for women empowerment and that of persons with disabilities in leadership roles. He emphasized that his vision for Akamkpa, Cross River State, and Nigeria is one where every citizen, regardless of their challenges, can contribute to building a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

As the momentum behind his campaign continues to build, it is clear that Dr. Ntui’s candidacy represents more than just an election—it is a movement toward securing a better future for Akamkpa and ensuring that no community is left behind. The residents of Awi Ward and Akamkpa are ready for change, and Dr. Ntui is poised to lead them toward that transformative future.

Binance CEO Exits Nigeria After Money Laundering Charges Dropped

Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan Freed and Departs Nigeria.

Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, has left Nigeria after eight months of detention following the Federal Government’s decision to drop money laundering charges against him. Gambaryan’s health had significantly deteriorated during his imprisonment, and his release allows him to receive necessary medical attention.

Background of the Case

Gambaryan and his colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s regional manager for Africa, were detained in February 2024 on allegations of laundering $35 million. Anjarwalla escaped custody on March 22, 2024, while Gambaryan remained in detention and was arraigned in court on April 8.

Release and Reaction

A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the charges due to Gambaryan’s declining health, which had worsened to the point where he required a wheelchair. Yuki Gambaryan, Tigran’s wife, expressed relief and gratitude, stating, “It is a huge relief that this day has finally come… I want to express my deepest gratitude to the US government for their efforts in securing his release.”

Reaction from Binance

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, confirmed Gambaryan’s departure from Nigeria in a statement, saying: “Today, American citizen Tigran Gambaryan left Nigeria to return home to his family after eight months of unlawful detention.”

Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, also expressed her gratitude to supporters, stating: “There were moments I feared this day would never come, but Tigran’s supporters gave me hope and strength. The road ahead for Tigran’s recovery is going to be difficult, and I appreciate being given the time and space to focus on that. Our children cannot wait to see their dad again.”

Implications

The dismissal of charges and Gambaryan’s release raise questions about Nigeria’s handling of international cases and potential implications for foreign investment.

Investigation and Future Actions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initiated the case against Gambaryan and Anjarwalla. The EFCC stated that the case could not proceed due to Gambaryan’s declining health.

International Response

The US government’s efforts in securing Gambaryan’s release highlight international concerns about Nigeria’s judicial process and treatment of foreign nationals.

Tigran Gambaryan’s release and departure from Nigeria mark the end of an eight-month ordeal. As he receives medical attention and reunites with his family, attention turns to the broader implications of this case for international relations and Nigeria’s justice system.
