They promised to serve with transparency, integrity, and dedication, ensuring their decisions were always in the best interest of the community. They vowed to work collaboratively with their fellow Councillors and the Executive Chairman, fostering sustainable development, peace, and unity within ABI while ensuring fairness and inclusivity for all citizens.

Shortly after the moment of the oath-taking, the Executive Chairman allocated portfolios to the newly appointed Supervisors. From where; Hon. Wilfred Inah Nkanu was named Supervisor for Education, Hon. Enang Aboli Azogor for Due Process, Mr. Ivara Moses Ejah for Works, Ms. Blessing Enya Edwin for Health, Mr. Stanley Emmanuel Ekpe for Environment, Mrs. Joy Soniwa Ekom for Finance, and Mr. Bassey Evans Igiri for Agriculture. Other appointees sworn in included Dr. Jeremiah Ani, Secretary of Council; Barr. Eni Victor Bassey, Legal Adviser; and Hon. Friday Ernest Okpa, Special Adviser on Peace and Security.

Events-packed Second Month in Office

1.- LGES 2024, Abuja
Hon. Egbala Bassey, Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government, joined key stakeholders at the 2024 Local Government Economic Summit (LGES) on December 3-4, 2024 in Abuja. The summit, centered on “25 Years of Uninterrupted Democracy: The Role of Local Government in Rural Development and Food Security,” brought together varieties of Local Government Stakeholders across the country to address pressing issues like governance, economic development, and agricultural progress. For Hon. Bassey, the summit was a vital opportunity to forge connections and gain insights, which will foster improved governance, strategic policies, and sustainable growth for Abi, ultimately benefiting its people.

2.-Visit to the Ministry of Finance, Cross River State
On December 5th, 2024, Hon. Egbala Bassey, Executive Chairman of Abi LGA, visited the Ministry of Finance for a pivotal meeting with Permanent Secretary, Hon. Ajah Francis Ajah. The discussion centered on fostering collaboration to enhance Abi’s development. Hon. Bassey urged the Ministry to prioritize Abi in economic decisions, particularly regarding budgeting and project allocation. The Permanent Secretary expressed strong support, pledging to work together for Abi’s growth, while applauding the Chairman’s inclusion of youth in governance.

3.-Inauguration of Supervisors
On December 6, 2024, Hon. Egbala Bassey inaugurated the newly appointed Supervisors for ABI Local Government Area, signaling a new era of leadership. The Supervisors—Hon. Wilfred Inah Nkanu (Education), Hon. Enang Aboli Azogor (Due Process), Hon. 5.-Delegation of the Medical Team to Ebom
On December 8, 2024, Hon. Egbala Bassey dispatched a team of medical experts to Ebom for an urgent on-the-ground assessment and to provide immediate basic medical intervention. 6.-Synergy with 245 Recce Battalion Afi Barracks Edor
On December 9, 2024, Hon. Egbala Bassey was warmly congratulated by the Cross River State APC, led by Chairman Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq., and other well wishers too numerous to mention. The party acknowledged his significant contributions, from his service at the University of Calabar to his tenure as Special Adviser on Intelligence under Governor Ben Ayade. As Executive Chairman of Abi LGA, his leadership has driven progress, reduced unemployment, and fostered peace. On December 29, 2024, in a heartwarming gesture of goodwill this Christmas season, Her Excellency Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, the First Lady of Cross River State, in collaboration with Engr. Anjor Obande, Founder of the Mother and Child Foundation, brought festive cheer to the good people of Nta-Nselle, in Ikom Local Government Area. The event, which was a beautiful display of generosity, culminated in the distribution of various gift items to vulnerable individuals and families in the community.

According to Government House Correspondent Itam Ekpe, the donations included food items, wrappers, and substantial cash gifts, collectively valued in the millions of naira.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu emphasized the importance of ensuring that even those in rural communities share in the joy of the season, particularly when it comes to extending kindness to the most vulnerable. While festive celebrations have been abundant in Calabar, she stressed the need to include the rural poor in the Christmas spirit, especially through direct acts of kindness.

The Governor’s wife, who was represented by Lady Elizabeth Awatt, Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Office of the First Lady, noted that while pregnant women in urban areas had already received food and cash gifts, it was essential to extend the same support to the expectant mothers in Nta-Nselle.

Engr. Anjor Obande, speaking to the Chiefs and women of Nta-Nselle, reaffirmed the commitment to the community, stressing that the visit was part of a long-standing promise to ensure that the people of Nta-Nselle are always included in government initiatives and support.

On behalf of the Chiefs and community leaders, Mr. Clement Ndowo expressed deep gratitude, describing the visit as “God’s ordained,” noting that the community had long yearned for such a gesture. He commended the duo for fulfilling their promise and praised their kindness.

The beneficiaries, overwhelmed with joy, expressed heartfelt thanks for the generosity shown, especially given the difficult condition of their roads.

The occasion was marked by the presentation of food, wrappers, and cash donations by Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu and Engr. Anjor Obande, all while traditional dances added a festive touch to the memorable event.
